There’s not much here at the moment and the web site is mostly a placeholder for my HOW-TOs so I can remember how to reinstall stuff later. So far I have written the following:

  • SSH BlackListing on Mac OS X 10.x HowTo – Last updated Nov 2007
    The SSH BlackList perl script runs as a deamon and monitors the secure.log for failed password attempts. If any suspicious activity is detected the source IP is added to a blacklist so that no further SSH connections can be made for a predetermined period of time.
  • IPAcco on Mac OS X Server 10.4 HowTo
    IPAcco is a free software package that helps a network admin to collect, visualize and analyze IP accounting data from the Cisco routers. Cisco routers themselves are capable of collecting IP accounting information.
    This HOW-TO specifically covers setting up IPAcco on Mac OS X Server which as there is little platform specific help over at the IPAcco sourceforge site.
  • Replacing SIMS with XMail on MacOS X HowTo – Last updated Mar 2006
    We relied for many years on Stalker’s excellent (and free) SIMS mail server. We host domains for friends and associated so we needed a mailserver that seperated the concept of Unix machine accounts and mail accounts.
    XMail does exactely that and allows multiple domains to be hosted each with it’s own user list, policies and quota system that can be administered by the domain owner via a web console.
    While XMail is weak in anti-spam capabilities, when it is combined with ASSP it is a killer combination.
  • SIMS and ASSP on MacOS X HowTo – Last updated Jan 2006
    ASSP is an anti-spam mail proxy that integrates with any mail server and works exceptionally well on MacOS X. Initially ASSP was devised as a self maintaining Bayesian filter but has since been expanded to cover many modern techniques such as Sender Policy Framework (SPF), concensus RBL, whitelisting and greylisting (delaying).
    This HOW-TO specifically covers setting up ASSP with Stalker Internet Mail Server but is equally applicable to any mail server (we currently use XMail, see below).
